Foreign policy of DPRK in post-cold war era

The subject matter of this paper is the changing of foreign policy in North Korea after the collapse of the communist bloc. This paper examines the foreign policy of North Korea since its establishment to Kim Il-sung's death in 1994. There are two main parts. The first part is general and deals with the theory of levels of analysis, describes the foreign policy goals and instruments while also listing many concerns with this method. The second part examines DPRK's goals within bilateral relations with five countries (USSR - RF, PRC, USA, KR, Japan) and how it effected the country. The Impact of International Sanctions on the Development of Nuclear Program of Iran and the DPRK

This bachelor thesis refers about the effectivity of international sanctions - economic and other types - which have been imposed on regimes in Iran and the DPRK to force these states to abandon any efforts leading to gaining their own nuclear capabilities. First, this thesis deals with defining the international sanctions on the level of international law and then examining both cases of their imposition, Iran and the DPRK. In addition there is also mentioned the Nuclear Deal with Iran which was negotiated as an complex international tool to control the Iranian nuclear program, to manage the imposed sanctions and conditions for sanctions to be lifted. In conclusion there is an assessment of the effectivity of the examined sanctions and if they reached the goals for which they have been imposed and a examines the reasons why the sanctions were quite effective in case of Iran but rather failed in case of DPRK.

Visual Propaganda of Kim Jong-un

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the content analysis of photographs of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The aims of the thesis are to designate the means of visual propaganda used by Kim Jong-un, to describe how the DPRK is presented through photographs, and to try to compare these tools with the propaganda and the political communication of the great dictators of the 20th century - Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, and Mao Zedong. The content of the thesis is a brief overview of the modern North Korean history and a description of the country's actual situation, including the specifics of local propaganda. Further follows the determination of propaganda itself according to several theories, and a description of propaganda tools of the aforementioned leaders. The crucial part of the thesis is the content analysis of the photographs of Kim Jong-un published from June 2018 to February 2019, during the interval between two summits hosting Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump. The analytical part is amended with the exposition of the personality profile of the leader.

First Year of Donald Trump's Foreign Policy towards DPRK

This Bachelor thesis analyses the main aspects of American foreign policy of Donald Trump's administrative in his first year towards Democratic People's Republic of Korea in context of North Korean nuclear and rocket program. During the year 2017, North Korean regime reached pivotal milestones in nuclear and rocket technologies, which laid the foundations of building large-scale arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads. This technological progress meant major threat not only for East Asian allies (South Korea and Japan) but even for United States mainland. The policy of previous American administrations did not succeed with solving the North Korean nuclear threat. North Korea proved the capability of circumventing international sanctions and systematically violate agreements. As a result, Donald Trump turned American foreign policy to harder line and primarily used huge American economic and military potential for the enforcement and achievement of his political goals.

DPRK's Propaganda: its Function, Methods and Development

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is amongst the totalitarian countries, where the word is regarded as an ideological weapon. Since its early days, North Korean propaganda was essential in establishing and legitimizing the cult of personality of the DPRK founder Kim Il-sung, spreading the Juche ideology, and later the cult of personality of Kim Jong-Il. The first chapter of this thesis examines the characteristics of the Juche Idea, Kim Il-Sung's cult of personality and describes the main themes and methods used by the state propaganda machine. The Second chapter deals with the impact of propaganda on North Korean literature. The aim of the third chapter is to analyze mass media as the most important tool of the North Korean propaganda. In this thesis I mainly focused on the personality of Kim Il-Sung in the period from the 1950's to the 1980's. There are examples amended to each chapter, which illustrate the main propaganda stages. Attention is paid also to the organizational structure of the WPK and other organizations.

DPRK Political Regime 1970-1994. Classfication Based on the Juan Linz's Typology of Non-democratis Political Regimes.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the Democratic People's Republic of Korea regime in the period 1970 - 1994 and to apply the results of the analysis on the Linz typology of non- democratic regimes. The first part focuses on a detailed characterization of three chosen types, namely totalitarian, sultanistic and post-totalitarian, on the searching for parallels and their comparsions. In the other two parts, the thesis focuses on certain aspects of the DPRK development that were chosen as the most appropriate regarding the typology. First, the period that followed after the fall of the Japanese protectorate,1945 to 1969, is analysed. In this period the regime start to establish its own new institutions. The next part examines the already established institutions in the period 1970 - 1994. All the results are then applied on the Linz typology.
